MAJ Thomas Nassif obtained his BA in Biology and Music in 1996 from the University of Virginia. He earned his MS in Biology in 2001 and his Ph.D. in Behavior, Cognition, and Neuroscience in 2013 from American University. MAJ Nassif is a certified yoga teacher and integrative restoration mindfulness instructor.

MAJ Nassif is a former adjunct faculty member at American University, George Washington University, and Maryland University of Integrative Health, instructing courses in sports psychology, stress management, biological psychology, mind body science, and yoga therapy. He also delivered integrative health and wellness courses in stress management, yoga, and mindfulness to patients at the Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

MAJ Nassif’s previous experience at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) included serving as Deputy Branch Chief of the Research Transition Office. He managed research protocols to deliver actionable knowledge products to enhance warfighter performance, resilience, and behavioral health. As Chief of the Sleep Research Center, MAJ Nassif led a team of research staff to conduct clinical research to mitigate fatigue management and sustain Soldier performance. He also managed a large-scale renovation to enhance the research capabilities of the Sleep Research Center.

As a WRAIR Principal Investigator, MAJ Nassif led high visibility studies to evaluate the effectiveness of innovative performance and behavioral health enhancement trainings for the Army in Basic Combat Training and operational units. He has briefed flag officers at TRADOC, CIMT, and USARPAC on the effectiveness of these programs for Soldiers. MAJ Nassif also evaluated the usefulness of performance and resilience enhancement training with the Security Forces Assistance Brigades. He is currently Principal Investigator on a study to identify suicide-related risk factors associated with military relocation.

MAJ Nassif received the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and Armed Forces Service Medal.
