HANNA NETTLES, B.S.

Research Assistant, Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress
Department of Psychiatry
Uniformed Services University

Hanna is a Research Assistant at the Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress (CSTS). She graduated from the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill in May 2022 with a B.S. in Psychology and double minors in Chemistry and Neuroscience. At UNC, Hanna had the opportunity to work at UNC Hospitals through their Gastroenterology Department, identifying at-risk groups for precancerous diseases of the esophagus to improve screening protocols. During the pandemic, she joined a second lab working with UNC's Speech and Hearing Sciences on language development in children on the autism spectrum. She later developed a Senior Honors Thesis on demographic factors and their moderation of language intervention outcomes in autistic children, which she presented at UNC's Symposium for Undergraduate Research. After graduating, Hanna worked as an Emergency Medical Technician in Raleigh, NC for over a year and served a diverse population of patients across the state. At CSTS, Hanna hopes to further develop her research skills and interests as she continues learning about traumatic stress, suicide, and trauma-informed care. Hanna aims to continue her education in medical school with a special interest in women's health.
