Erin L. Maresh, PhD, is a Research Psychologist at the Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress (CSTS) at the Uniformed Services University. Dr. Maresh earned her BS in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin and her MA and PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Virginia. She completed her clinical internship with the Minneapolis VA Health Care System, followed by a postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Arizona. Dr. Maresh’s research examines the brain and behavioral bases of emotion regulation, cognitive flexibility, and social cognition, including how these factors interact to influence the development of psychopathology and strategies to modify these factors to improve psychological health and well-being. Areas of particular interest include social emotion regulation, empathy, social-evaluative threat, and social connectedness. Dr. Maresh joined CSTS in 2023 and is part of the Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) team partnering with DARPA to support their STRENGTHEN program, which aims to develop novel neurobehavioral interventions that target cognitive flexibility and emotion regulation to reduce the negative effects of traumatic stress and prevent suicide.
